Metals

We are using quite an extensive range of metals in the production of our body jewelry and we are very aware that metals used for body piercing have to be of the highest quality as not to cause infections or allergic reactions. All the metals we use are nickel, lead and cadmium free and we only acquire our metals from reliable suppliers that are offering metals specific for jewelry and body piercing production.

Below is a list with descriptions for the different types of metals we are using.

BRASS

Our code: BKB (Example BKBE xxx)

Read about Brass on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Brass is a metal alloy from copper and zinc that has a yellow orange color very similar to that of gold. Brass have been used in Asia for body piercing jewelry for over 2,000 years and we are proud to continue with this great tradition. Even though some of our brass jewelry is made with traditional hand made methods we have added our own casting facility so to have the option to mix modern production techniques with traditional ones. Another thing that we are breaking with tradition is the type of brass we use, as a lot of brass is recycled in Asia you cannot be sure on the metal content we only use imported nickel-free and lead free brass from Italy and Germany that has been specifically processed for high quality jewelry production. By ensuring our brass quality we don't have to coat our brass with any lacquer which is very common with brass jewelry produced in our region.

316L SURGICAL STEEL

Our code: SW (Example SW xxx)

Read about Surgical steel on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Steel is a relatively new material to the jewelry industry and has only started to become popular in the last 20 years or since the introduction of body piercing jewelry to the world as a modern concept. Since the beginning of body piercing jewelry the standard steel to be used has been 316 L surgical grade steel though in later years a lot of cheaper options like 304 steel has been coming out China. We are firm believers that quality and safety is of outmost importance when inserting metal into your body to avoid infections and serous allergies so we take extra great care to ensure that only certified 316L surgical steel is used in the production of all our body piercing jewelry.

SILVER PLATED BRASS

Read about Silver plated brass on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Our collection of silver plated brass is made using the same nickel-free and lead-free jewelry grade brass that we are using for our normal brass jewelry. We then do a double process silver plating using 925 sterling silver and to finish things of we add a clear coating to get maximum life time on the silver color. We mostly do silver plating for items which are difficult to be made in white brass such as hand made items or items with a specific stone or shell setting. Its a little bit more expensive than the white brass but we use this technique to be able to offer as wide choice as possible for our customers. Please note that even with the double process silver plating and the extra coating the silver color will fade over time as with all plated jewelry, even white gold turns yellow with time.

WHITE BRASS

Read about White Brass on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Our white brass is a jewelry grade nickel-free and lead-free alloy consisting of copper, tin and zinc and it has a very similar look to silver with a very slight hint of grey. White brass have gotten quite a bad name as some producers are selling Alpaca as white brass, which has a high content of nickel. We guarantee that our nickel-free white brass jewelry will not turn yellow after a few weeks or that your ear will will turn red and start itching due to nickel allergy. So here you have a very affordable option to those who prefer good quality body jewelry in a silver color as we have a very large collection of white brass jewelry and body piercing.

BRONZE

Read about Bronze on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Bronze is an alloy using primarily copper and about 15% of tin and have been used throughout the ages to create different types of jewelry and even tribal piercings. The bronze that we are using for our jewelry we call Rose Bronze because of the pinkish color that it has, very similar to that of Rose gold. We are only using nickel-free, lead free Bronze imported from Italy and Germany that has been made specifically for the purpose of jewelry production. Even though our bronze jewelry collection isn't the largest of our body jewelry collections we think its one of the most unique due to the color of our Rose bronze and the fact that there is not much bronze jewelry available as with many other metals.

COPPER

Read about Copper on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Copper is one of the oldest metals used by mankind can be found in nature in a directly usable metallic form and it was also the first metal used in casting some 6,000 years ago. Copper has a dark orang pinkish color that slowly darkens over time, to retain its original color it needs to be polished regularly but we don't think that it's necessary as we think copper jewelry looks better when it has more of a rustic look like antique tribal jewelry. The copper that we use is a pure copper without any traces of nickel or lead and it's jewelry. We keep our copper jewelry collection quite limited as its not as popular as some of the other metals such as brass jewelry though we think that might change over time as its such a beautiful material and very suitable for jewelry.

GUN METAL

Read about Gun Metal on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Gunmetal, also known as Red brass was originally a type of bronze alloy consisting of copper, tin and zinc, used to make guns and would turn dark grey almost black over time. Our Gunmetal jewelry is made from our imported nickel-free and lead-free brass that we heavily oxide to get a very dark grey blackish color. We strongly advise against polishing our gunmetal with polishing liquids or jewelry polishing clothes as then the color will slowly turn yellow as the oxidizing will be removed.

STERLING SILVER

Read about Sterling Silver on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper and this is the standard silver alloy to use in jewelry production. Silver has been used for thousands of years to produce jewelry all over the world and is still one of the most popular materials in the jewelry industry. Being a precious metal the price is quite a lot higher than the other metals that we are using and this is making our products quite limited to smaller items for now though if demand changes we would be very intrigued to make a collection of larger piercing jewelry from sterling silver.

TITANIUM (G23)

Read about Titanium on Wikipedia

Our thoughts: Titanium is a chemical element with a dark silver color, low density, and high strength and was discovered only a little over 200 years ago. It has recently been introduced into the jewelry market as it's a good choice for those with allergies or those who will be wearing the jewelry in environments such as swimming pools. All the characteristics of titanium makes it the ultimate material for body piercing jewelry and even though the price is considerably higher than steel many body piercers prefers to exclusively use titanium for all their piercings as it prevents any allergic or infectious actions on the skin and in the body.
